Our History
Castle2000 Films was founded in 2002 by brand management and marketing executive Gustavo Alejandro Castillo (Alex Castillo) with the sole mission to develop and produce groundbreaking films that entertain, inspire and promote social and cultural diversity.
We began and completed production of our first project, the critically acclaimed short film Daniel's Spark, starring Sky Soleil in 2003. The film had several film festival screenings from New York to Los Angeles in 2004, and garnered several awards including best actor honors for Soleil.
In 2005, we produced Father Figure starring Jesse Garcia, in association with Palmarejo Film's writer/director Adam Schlachter. We premiered Father Figure in 2006 at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and screened the film at several prestigious festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand in France.
In 2007, we produced The Stain on the Sidewalk, starring Emily Rios, our second collaboration with Schlachter and Palmarejo Films and premiered it at the 2007 Los Angeles Latino Film Festival. The film screened at over twenty festivals including the prestigious South by Southwest, Los Angeles International and the New York Latino International Film Festivals.
In early 2008, we completed El Primo (The Cousin), starring Daniel Marin and Manny Montana, in association with writer/director Nick Oceano’s Indigenous Films, marking the beginning of our present collaboration.
We premiered El Primo (The Cousin) with great fanfare at the 2008 Festival de Cannes Marche du Film in France. The film was greatly received with ‘Best of Fest’ awards and sold-out screenings at over twenty-five film festivals around the world, including New York's NewFest, San Francisco’s Frameline, Los Angeles' Outfest, Palm Springs International Film Festival of Shorts, Clermont-Ferrand and the New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles International Latino Film Festivals.
In mid-2008, we worked again with Oceano as part of the production team of MTV Films’ (in association with Bunim-Murray Productions) feature film Pedro written by Academy Award Winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk). Pedro world premiered at the prestigious 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and had several screening worldwide including the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival and the 2009 Palm Springs International Film Festival. The film was released worldwide across all the MTV Networks in 2009.
In early 2009, we released El Primo (The Cousin) on DVD and VOD as part of the FirstOut 3 and FirstOut International Collections from Village Lighthouse’s Alluvial Filmworks Division. The film was subsequently released on television in select territories around the world.
Also in 2009, we began and completed production of our next project, Bedrooms, an ensemble drama starring Julie Benz, Moon Bloodgood, Sarah Clarke, Jordan Belfi, Xander Berkeley, Barry Bostwick, Jesse Garcia and Dee Wallace, in association with Cima Productions’ Youssef Delara and Victor Teran and Olmos Productions’ Michael Olmos.
Bedrooms world premiered at the 2010 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. The film was greatly received in the festival circuit winning several awards, including Best Feature Film at New York’s ACEFEST and Florida’s Naples International Film Festivals, as well as serving as the Closing Night Selection at the Bel-Air Film Festival in Los Angeles.
We released Bedrooms in late 2010 on CBS Television’s SHOWTIME Networks. The film is now airing on several of the SHOWTIME and The Movie Channel networks and was released on DVD and VOD in early 2011.
Looking towards the future, we are now in development on two feature film projects: Bill Deasy’s Ransom Seaborn, based on his award-winning novel and Nick Oceano’s The Cousins, based on his award-winning short film.
